Hi all,
I want to inform you that the Print Team is not dead yet!
A few months ago Michael Phipps asked me to take over the
lead of the Print Team, so here I am. After examining the existing
source code, that Ithamar left behind, I have added the most
important required tasks to the print kit team page and have started
with the completion of the print_server and Printer preferences
application.
The progress in the print_server so far:
- *asynchronous* displaying of printer page setup and job setup dialog
- *asynchronous* printing of spooled print job files
- starting printing after restart of print_server
There remains still much to be done:
- abort printing if printer add-on fails
- abort printing if printer is removed in Printers Prefs
- abort printing when print_server quits
- avoid resource conflicts (=transport add-ons) printing to multiple printers
- allow Preview print jobs be printed asynchronous
- extension to R5: allow selection of printer per application, similar to Dano
- etc...
I don't have much spare time, so progress is made slowly. I hope to reach
R5 level until the end of the year.
Regards,
Michael
PS: The changes are NOT in the repository yet, because I am behind a firewall.
Any advice how to tunnel through it is appriciated.
PPS: Be patience with my response, because I have access to the internet at work only.
